by Mikhail Bulgakov Directed by Natalya Lapina, Russian Theatre of Estonia 2012
1925. Bulgakov writes his classic story about the dog medically transformed into a human being very well fit into the society of postrevolutionary Russia. And it is the same year when Tatlin's idea for the monument of the Third International is finally abandoned. For me, this famous construction is also the Tower of Babylon…and the double helix of the DNA, or the spiral of history imagined by Hegel and Marx. Audacious visions crushed by the cruel weight of stupidity…both of these things quintessentially human.
