Mechanisms have always fascinated, but also intimidated me. They have been used a lot in installations at least since Middle Ages. I don't think there are many people who can resist the special charm of mechanical toys when they are combined with theatrical effects in order to create small stories that go on and on to repeat themselves.
My own experiments in mechanical theatre have been a rare pleasure. I have used elements of it both in my installations and puppet theatre productions. But to create a full-fledged mechanical theatre is a real challenge. After all, it is not often that you have to be your own director and script writer and design your own actors too...
